I hope you guys can help me solve this problem, because I just got out of one and now this one. Anyway, I noticed today while driving rpms and mph are working together. Then I might take my foot off the gas, to let it coast and then lightly press the gas pedal I noticed the tachometer gauge drop down to 1000 rpms and just stick there, regardless if I step on the gas or or slow down. it will speed up, but I can here something holding it back either under the car or in front. Might sound like I'm going up a hill when I'm going on flat roads. If I give it more gas the tach breaks loose and jumps up, or if I come to a stop it will come down and reset itself and work fine. What could be causing this issue? and if I wait on it will it hurt my Jeep. It's a Jeep GC lauredo, 4.7 V8 by the way

try driving with your over drive off, my dakota (same trans) doesn't like the over drive unless i'm going 60 mph or above.

Overdrive? I don't know where that is on the Jeep. If you mean the 4x4 I don't drive with that but I will check. It's crazy cause it just woke up today with that, well it might have been there but I noticed it today.

The only thing I see on the side of the shifter is the 4w drive. I'll take a picture of it and post it so you can see it.

I don't know actually, I've owned it for 7 months bought it used from a Dealership, I hope it is something as simple as a battery, You think a battery would display symptoms like that. I often leave the battery on while the engine is off and never had any trouble, but it wouldn't hurt to check. in between the 7 months I've dropped down a gran in repairs and I still don't feel confident about anything in it. oh yeah the noise I'm referring to sounds like when you're in a lower gear and you've hit the max mph for that gear and the cars letting you know you need to upshift if you want to go faster, like a dragging noise. It only does this when the needle gets stuck.

on the shift selector does it say
p
n
D with a circle around it
3
if so then d with circle around it is o/d and 3 is no o/d

sounds like how my truck acts when below 60 with o/d on, it brings the rpm's to low and put to much load on the engine, just a characteristic of these engine/transmission combos. mine will even "buck" and "surge" slightly.

Are the only selectors on my shifter no D with bubble.

well besides the over drive it could be a tps sensor, this is common on these things and can cause the same symptoms you are describing, turning the o/d off is just one thing to try before replacing parts but your seems to not have an o/d button so on to the next steps.

Yeah already had the tps sensor replaced. Before it it was like a wild stallion, bucking, Jerking, and stalling. It was a while before I thought it wasn't a transmission problem, because the symptoms felt like it.
