Timing chains.
W8 Passat wagon now in my garage...gulp....

Chains are the pains for lots of engine, same thing on my VR6.
Imagine that, twice, sandwiched between the engine and transmission.
Now imagine that it's a car that people tend to neglect once repairs start to get more frequent.
That’s a cool car, always a fan of the VR and W!
Valid point about the hot air intake, but I bet it sounds great!
I LOVE these passat wagons, and I love the W8. I have never been brave enough to pull the trigger on something like this in the past and at this point in my life I need the gas and go type of Toyotas we currently have in our fleet.

Holy cow, amazing!Bought this one in 2007. Loved looking at the speedometer even though most of it was fantasy what with speed limiters and all.
Only paid $6500 because of the mileage, but ended up being one of my top ten scores of all time.
Sure - you have to remove it for some of the services. That's about it.

I haven’t seen one of these in so long I had forgotten about them.
If only we got cool stuff like this in the US.
Was it crashed? I am asking that because front bumper and hood seems to be a little off (how they are put together)....or is it just an angle from which that picture was taken.
No crashes in it's history and having spent a lot of time crawling around under it doesn't appear to have been BUT yes, there are a few things that point to it having been likely put in the service position where you pull the f. end off and I bet when they did the tranny the engine drops so the hood was removed. I also think some of what you are seeing is picture angle.
