Its motor oil.. sure there is a very small amount of cleaning agents but not much.. youd spend years and years of oil changes trying to clean up sludge if your just depending on VWB

for the record i like VWB..

If you need to do some cleaning, do some cleaning..

Any name brand, long highway trips (such as vacations) short overall intervals (2-3k miles) that's my opinion. id prob use pyb or mobil super 5000.

People seem to say Pennzoil yellow bottle is the best for cleaning but I've never seen anything concrete to back that up.

i have heard that but what about HDEO ?? but i need it in 10w30 wouldnt that be better cause more detergent and i would use it for 500 or 1000 miles.I know its a waste but if i am unsure of the cars history its cheap insurance to me.

Rotella T5 10w30 4qt jug is 12.xx$ at wm if youre going that route.

use a PCMO, Frequent changes
Either FAR or EDLP works wonders, as does clearence racks

Check AAP, AZ, etc,
Mobil Super is 13$ a 5qt jug at WM
QSGB is 14$
Pennzoil is 15$
Castrol is 15$

Here currently on clearence is
Lucas 5w30 Conventional 16$ a jug AZ
AAP Synthetic 5w20 at 1.95 a qt AAP

FAR/Random Deals
GOIL is usually FAR or close to it
Valvoline NextGen, 2.99 qt at AZ right now, with a 20$ rebate

Valvoline currently has a rebate/coupon for WM posted on here for 7$ off

Use an over size filter, bump the OCI to 2500-3000
it takes time to clean up stuff.

What are your working on? maybe someone can help you find an OS filter

Yes , VWB has a good dose of cleansing agents. It uses Sodium as a detergent/dispersent. Some users on here do not like that, it has worked just fine in my experience. Also, I have talked to at least a dozen techs who have worked on engines which have used VWB and they said it kept them quite clean.

I already know the oversized filter I buy and sell cars and if the oil doesnt look like its been changed that often i will usually do one or two quick oil changes and wondered the best cleaning oil.I am not fond of snake oils and just as soon let the oil do the cleaning.

Agreed. VWB may not push cleaning as its strong suit, but that's primarily marketing. If an oil is SN/GF-5, it's obviously sufficient.

Well I bought the truck with oil black as sin (BAS) and the inside of the baffle on the valvecover is a fine layer of caked on deposits. I haven't taken the valvecovers off because it's not the easiest thing to do on this engine. Fuel and AC lines are in the way.

I have ran PYB for 1500 miles and I have been running T6 for almost 1000 and the oil is black, dark black. As dark as my other vehicles after 6k intervals.

I thought about switching to VWB because of the UOA results many people are having.

Exactly ^^^^^. I have seen engine`s torn apart where the owner used VWB. And they were very clean.

just how quickly are you needing this to happen, im not argueing that short frequent oil changes wont help, but your not going to get a big noticeable difference in 3,000 miles on vwb.. thats all im getting at.

for the record, Ive had very, very good reults replacing 20% or 1 quart of oil with MMO for a oci, normally checking the oil level every 500mi and topping up with more MMO (as it will burn off). I learned this on BITOG and have applied it, its worked fine for me and the nasty thats came out of the drane plug is proof..
Just like B12-CHEMTOOL and seafoam in the gas tank, and my favorite techron.. Im not pushing any one just saying ive learned all these on BITOG and had good luck with all of them..

Got to be careful though not to keep adding too much Mystery oil. ^^^ I was using Synthetic for 46,000 miles, so i`m sure the VWB will keep it clean now.

Oh thats only for a 3,000 mile OCI on cheap Dino whenever i felt i needed a flush.. My cars and trucks get a steady diet of syn nowadays and about the only thing i feel that i need to add for the health of my autos in techron.. when chevy has a part number on this product and sells it for $26.00 a bottle to cure certain chevy ailments (gas tank woes) I feel safe adding a few bottle a year.

Slow enough to not clog the oil pickup.
Fast enough to stop burning a hole in my pocket because of frequent oil changes.
