Looking at a used 2002 Winebago camper with V6 VW motor, 26K miles. I'm not
familiar with VW's at all. Did these motors have any issues or are they relatively
solid?

If you mean the v6 they put in the Passat, its solid enough but it won't set the world on fire.

If it's the 2.8/2.9/3.2 variant in either 12 or 24 vaqlve you'll love it!

Having the 2.8 I can tell you it is leaky, but if you keep oil in it at an acceptable level they are dead reliable. A 6 quart sump in a small displacement V6 = awesome.

However, mine is a little pokey in a sedan, let alone an RV. Don't expect to win any drag races.

If you're talking about the Winnebago Rialta then the powertrain is the 2.8 liter VR6 engine. The engine is strong but did have ignition coil issues.

The only troubles I ever noticed with the Rialta was that most places didn't know how to work on them.

They are known to have internal problems related to the timing chain(back of motor) and require motor removal and very $$$$ to fix.

Two friends with Eurovan's suffered through the problem.

There is a big difference between the VR6 and v6 VW. VR6 has its issues for sure.

VR6, with timing chain on the back, I'd avoid. Then again, IIRC they had issues up around 150kmiles. Maybe in a harder-worked RV it would show up at 100k? Which you might not see for 10 years, depending upon how you drive it--might be time for an upgrade by then. Assuming it's a VR6 and not the V6 of course.

Thanks folks for the feedback. I knew I would get some good advice. Doesn't sound like anything I want
to deal with, so I'll look for some other type RV.
