VW Polo 1.4 engine 2002 engine ticking noise

Hello,

So I have a Volkswagen Polo 1.4 with some enging ticking noise, the sound decrease a bit when the engine is warm, stationair you hear a bit and when pulling IT sounds like a tractor.

The engine power is healty and the oil is alsof standaard 5W30, what additive I can add to reduce the ticking noise? Thanks you

Without knowing the cause of the ticking any suggestion of an additive is to cure it is premature. What’s the source of the ticking?

Is this the same engine you wanted an additive for cleaning?

Doesn’t your owner’s manual specify a VW approved oil for this engine?

Open your Polo's bonnet/hood and listen to where the ticking noise is coming from.
I'd guess oil is something like VW 502 00 and 506 01, which is superseded by VW 504 00.

I know you don't want to hear this, but you need to fix the problem .... and the problem is not the oil - so additives will not help.

Start googling and watching youtube videos of vehicles with the same engine. Somewhere you will find someone with the exact same noise- then you can (or a mechanic) can go digging for the problem and fix it. You may just get lucky and it is something simple.

My Opel engine had a tick when cold, I tried various oils, thick and thin, synthetic and conventional. Not much change, so I decided to live with it.

Then when it was time to change the cam belt, the mechanic also did the valve clearances, with the correct clearances the cold tick was gone.

It could be anything. Have you checked the exhaust header gasket for leaks? This can sound very much like a valve clearance noise and would conform with your description of getting louder under load.

Standard 5w30? Any VW approvals on that oil?
