VW 504 in place of dexos?

Warranty aside, thoughts on VW 504 in place of dexos? Turbo direct injection four cylinder.

Hypothetically, of course. Oil would be M1 5w30 ESP.
 
Good news! That M1 ESP is both approved for 504/507 and licensed dexos2 :)

Doesn't GM want you to use Dexos 1?
Your 5w30 ESP choice is dual...... gas & diesel oil. If GM is not requiring and merely recommending 5w30, then warranty protection should not be denied, unless they are sticklers on SP cert.
 
My manual says dexos1 Gen3 or equivalent. Giving no explanation for "Equivalent'".

But d1G3 and d2 are excellent oils as well. The technicality that you can use something else is very different than dealing with a service department that's "bound" to the recommendation.

Thanks all. Just thinking of running a common oil in my gmc and VW. Seems like esp 5w30 might be the ticket.
