Sent a sample in of conventional VR1 10W30 any google searching brought up old data or for the 20w50 flavor. I was thinking of using it in my flat tappet cam motor but didn't believe Valvoline data sheet that showed lower than average zddp compared to other oils in the category. This VOA is pretty close to Valvoline data sheet

The conventional version is a little different from the synthetic version.

VR1 synthetic 10W-30

Now that is more of what I was looking for. But after seeing the amsoil 10w40 one a few posts down it looks like what I was looking for too. Just wish I would have seen that voa as I sent in same oil also a couple days after I shipped vr1 to Blackstone! But more Data is a good thing

Using VR-1 20W50 in my 1968 Pontiac. Castrol Classic GTX High Zinc is another good oil for our flat tappet engines.

Thought VR-1 oils all had higher ZN/P around 1200-1300 ppm?
There are HDEO’s that have more!
from the video with LSJR, the formulation is "SP based" fir lack of better terms. I wonder if this is the reason for this? Less detergent to compete with the zinc.....as it seems you can have too much zinc.

That's why I wanted to test this grade. Everything i found was many years old or the 20w50 version. On Valvoline website the 20w50 flavor still lists zddp numbers like you mentioned but data sheet for 10w30 is weaker like my voa confirms

I reckon they known what they are doing, whether we understand or not.
