Vista Upgrade "gotcha"

FYI for all you Vista upgrader's out there...All previous versions of Windows allowed you to install an "upgrade" version if you had the previous qualifying version's CD and/or installation floppy available.

No longer.

If you upgrade to Vista, XP will need to already be on the computer and operable before Vista will upgrade. This is true in the Home Basic, Premium and Standard products.

If you're one of the 12 people running Windows XP x64 version (I'm one of them), there's no upgrade option...wipe and reinstall only.

You can install windows xp upgrade without anything at all. We did it in one of my computer classes on a daily basis.

I see no reason at all to switch to vista yet.

My copy of XP Pro upgrade requires the CD of another version of Windows to be inserted before doing a fresh install.

Run the windows xp upgrade from this, and you won't need any cd's.

A workaround, and I do mean WORK around to this upgrade "gotcha".

The advantage of Vista is it will make your computer run slower, use up massive amounts of hard drive space and make many of your older programs, especially non Borg one, obsolete. Other than that, the only reason to buy it is to increase Microsoft's profits.

rm, thanks for the link! It would be oodles easier if MS just allows us to install the OS 1 time, rather than 2.

Geesh. It takes two times to install the OS once. Sounds like something that came out of a boardroom meeting where the company is mired in internal politics rather than focused on customer satisfaction.

i think it is still too early to get the operating system, i do have it but it has some flaws but i have a feeling this is the best system from microsoft
