vista problem - automatic IP addr. refresh

Hi,

Im having some issues with my two vista platforms. One is a Sony VAIO laptop I just got, and another is a desktop that I built from scratch some time back. It occurs both on wireless (on the laptop)and wired (on the desktop).

When the computers go to sleep from lack of use, when they wake back up, Vista sees that they are connected to the router/network, but it does not re-obtain an IP address from the router. It is set to do it via DHCP, and for example, when I boot the computer, it gets the IP address without any problems. it is only when coming back from sleep.

The current solution is to use the 'diagnose' button for the network/wifi card, and thenit always tells me to click one spot to get the IP address automatically. It gets an IP address and then runs perfectly until it goes to sleep again.

I can understand taking up to a minute to get an IP address after being asleep. However, vistanever even gets it, no matter how long. It is an issue with vista.

Anyone have a solution?

You're not alone with this, as I've heard several complaints about getting a solid network connection after Sleep/Hibernate.

Next time your computers come out of Sleep, right click on your network icon in the task bar. Select "Connect to a network" and continue to click the refresh button on the "Connect to a network" box that comes up.

Mine will stay with "Limited or No Connectivity" status for a minute or so, or if I do what I described above. However, it has no problem finding the router and connecting, only when getting a solid connection.

My shot in the dark...
Could possibly be a setting in Device Manager - Network Adapters - Network Connections Properties: The only box that should have a check is, "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
