Virtual Machine update

I'm running XP Media Edition 2005 and keep getting notice of an update for security enhancement of Microsoft Virtual Machine. I've downloaded and installed it multiple times, even turning off AVG virus protection, but as soon as I restart the computer, the icon is back telling me I need to download and install the upgrade for VM. Any ideas?? Thanks-Bill

Remove the Microsoft Virtual Machine (it's about 6 years old now) and download the latest Java Virutal Machine (JVM) from www.sun.com. Link to Sun's download site (accept any messages about security as it's an HTTPS site). Download the offline installer rather than the online installer.

Once you've installed it, go into the Control Panel, choose the Java JRE applet, turn off auto-updating as it's a complete nuisance.
