Virgin Quaker State QS14006 Cut (PF46 xref)

In the name of science (and cheap on-sale filters) I decided to cut one of the Quaker State QS14006's I bought for the Malibu while Menards had em cheap ($1.99).

Another turn

The seam; always a problem spot for uniformity it seems.

Over-all a great filter for two bucks. 80 sq. in of media, but I haven't been able to get efficiency data from Purolator/SOPUS yet but will report when I do.

Should have a used one in a few months with about 9k on it.

Yep, they sure are. Definatly Purolator.

I doubt it ... but, I don't like the glued together seam on the pleat. The Purolators I've seen cut open have a metal band at the media seam, so not sure if the non-Purolator brands get a glued seam based on the spec given to Purolator.

Let's see, this Quaker State filter for ~$2.00 or an orange can for more money, which to use? Tough decision, not.

As for the seam, while I prefer the metal, as long as it's glued well it shouldn't be an issue.

For $2 a very decent filter. Thanks for posting.

True ... I think the Purolators I've seen have the seam glued AND the metal band on the seam. Best setup IMO. Maybe they have found a better glue and decided to drop the metal band now on some (??).

I can get them here from Canadian Tire, but they're expensive: $7 bucks each. I had a line on some good filters shipped free but its looking more and more like I'll be going to Rock Auto for the other parts I wanted, and I'm back to trying to find something decent but reasonably priced here - no small feat. Make no wonder the WMs here are Fram exclusive - the other shops don't even try and offer a product line that is competitive (its not quite so bad I have to settle for an overpriced OCOD, but its pretty bad).

Finally spoke to a engineer at/with Purolator and he said the QS14006 is 94% at 20 micron.

That's not really expensive though is it Spyder? Here it's about the cheapest non-cardboard oil filter I can buy!

Compared to the $3 each I paid for them in the USA, I guess it's expensive. I'd still pay $7 if I didn't collect a stash of them.

No doubt, I couldn't argue with $3 either. Unfortunately it's been a long time since I've seen a $3 filter locally.

Doesn't not a bad of a filter for 1.99. Everything is better than the OCOD is worth using and cheaper. At my local store I pay around $7 for a Fram TG. I'll buy a quaker state any time if they had them.
