Vintage NOS Fram PH43 Cut and Post

One of the main contributors back then and where most of the "Orange Can of Death" stories came from was due to the prevalence of engine mounted oil bypass valves that could stick and cause filter collapse. The heavy paraffin wax content of those oils back then did not help.
A popular small block and big block chevy oiling mod was to plug the oil bypass, orange can death resulted.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

And those drag racers don't always hammer the engine at redline down the 1/4 mile with the oil at full operating temperature which didn't help the filter with no way to bypass when the dP across it went too high.

... also remember him using the Kmart branded motorvator anyone remember those ?
I used a lot of those in the 80s and early 90s, and had no problems with them. They were thinly disguised Purolators. Usually around 18,000 miles (3 oil changes) per filter.
