Funny they went from N frame to K frame to small (J?) frame for the .357 chambering availability. Improvements in metallurgy?
The J-Frame was completely reworked for 357 use. The K-Frame wasn't. S&W could have easily come out with another frame designation for the new J "magnum size" frame, but they decided to stick with calling it a J-Frame. The L-Frame is really nothing more than a beefed up K-Frame and the magnum size J-Frame is nothing more than a beefed up standard J-Frame.
Thanks for the info about the frames, G-MAN. I didn't know they reworked the J for the magnum loads.
I got an M-1917 .45 ACP, is that an N frame? Kinda big.
Bob, G-MAN can neither confirm nor deny working for said alleged "agency" until 2021.
j/k

Huh? What makes you think I worked or work for an agency?
G-man is synonymous with the FBI
Yeah, but in this case it comes from a nickname given to me in college because I subscribed to GQ magazine. It started off as "GQ-man" and quickly became shortened to "G-man."
