Pep Boys and my dealer charge about $50. Or if I bring my own oil (Mobil 1) they charge 20-25. And yes I can see reason to change sooner than 8000 miles if the car has known engine problems (like Honda's VCM or Toyota's hot-running sludgers or Volkswagen's PD-TDI that destroys cams).
