Any speculation as to why only apple iphones are in SOS mode? The android side of our company is fine. All the iphones are in SOS mode and no voice or data outside of wifi.

I heard there was a large Verizon outage this morning, my work iPhone on Verizon hasn't been impacted.

Not just an iPhone issue. Some androids affected as well. Some people with two phone numbers on their phone noticed that one is down and one isn’t. My phone has been down for like 4 hours now. Ridiculous!

It is a partial outage, but covers nationwide. I've seen a few news clips about it.

My daughter has a credit account with Verizon and she's had no service since around 9am this morning.
Ironically, my wife and I have a Verizon prepaid accounts, and our service is fine and has been all day long.

My Android S23+ has been down on VOICE calls only since 10 AM, my wife's identical phone has been fine.
Texts and internet are still ok, but those are likely using wifi.
Our phones have two different area codes however.
It's likely a DNS attack by area code, since we use the same cell towers. Verizon reports that my phone number is not registered to their network!

I have a Verizon iPhone. I’m on a corporate account. No issues all day.

Wife and one kid have iPhone on Verizon personal credit account. Different area code than mine. No issues with either of them. No issues for kid number two on the same plan with an android.

Seems pretty random.

I have 2 Google phones. 1 says emergency calls only and the other one says sos calls only.
My Samsung phone is working fine and has been all day

Coworker was having issues on an Verizon android. Verizon told him it was an outage. Neither of us had issues with our Verizon company iPhones.

Definitely effected Illinois and didn't appear to be specific to just Iphones here, both Android and Iphones were down. There was a lot of talk in our IT issues channel on Teams this morning. Not sure if it is fully resolved in this area yet or not.

“Verizon engineers have fully restored today’s network disruption that impacted some customers. Service has returned to normal levels,” Verizon said in a statement on Monday. “If you are still having issues, we recommend restarting your device. We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your patience.”

So if it was the weather, they would have chosen to deflect the issue to that. Being so tight lipped this was no doubt in my mind a cyber attack of some kind. Why else would they have a reason to keep it a secret.

Every company that has had a denial of service due to cyberattack admits that is what happened. It's better than customers thinking (correctly) that they broke the network themselves.

I have Verizon on my work iPhone. I used the iPhone for meetings yesterday and today remotely. No issues whatsoever.

One thing I've noticed about Verizon over the long term is their data speeds look great if you do a speed test with Ookla app, but in real world, I'm noticing Verizon gets very slow for 10 minutes (so slow you can barely use it), and then it will speed up.

In my area, AT&T has slower 5G than Verizon, but AT&T's speed is extremely consistent (it doesn't slow down),
so I can rely on AT&T more than Verizon for data.
