Is it true that the first SBCs had no oil filter? I read that somewhere.
Back in my tune-up/oil-change tech days, an old '59 Chevy came into the shop for our $14.88 oil, lube, filter and "15-point inspection". The 283 had the first cartridge oil filter I'd ever seen.
No, but it was different. It was a cartridge style with a capped paper element held in a massive metal can under the block. A long bolt ran through it. Back in the 80s, it wasn’t uncommon to bolt a spin-on adapter in place and use something like a pf65 iirc. It seemed so modern!
Maintenance interval on those cars was 1000 miles per the factory manual. Every steering fitting needed grease, and all the wheels needed the shoes tightened. Maybe you could get to 3000 miles, but skipping the shoe tightening was no joke! The generator and distributor even had oiling points on them.
