They were based on the Lincoln LS platform which used the Jaguar S-Type platform. They used the 3.9L Jaguar AJ V8 which is a decent engine, but had lots of issues. They are now to the point that a bunch of the engine parts are obsolete from Ford

I wonder whether engine swaps are common?

The problem is the whole car falls apart around it. Someone brought one in and when looking up parts the entire cooling system plastic parts were obsolete as well as the inner and outer tie rods, rear toe links, and front and rear struts/shocks.

That's a shame. A friend's wife really wanted one of these. I'll pass on the information.

There is a lot of plastic in the cooling system and they tend to fall apart. Also, at least in the Lincoln LS and ThunderChicken applications, there were coil issues causing misfires. They were just generally very unreliable compared to "Ford" engines.
