The old one ('57?) was in much better shape than the "retro" one (c. 2000).

I'm surprised how much better the '57 looks. With that start you would think the 2000 Ford designers could have does better job. Some of us might have bought the 2000 if they had. I owned 2 cars built in 2000 and neither one was a Thunderbird.

^^That's the LTD based T-Bird. An automotive insult, plain and simple.
Seriously, that ad represents what the auto companies thought of you.

A brown one appeared in my neighbor's drive and 3 days later, it was a mirror.
Quart cans of Eastwood paint remover and plain work striped that car.
I walked around it and no "lead filler" or any other joint treatment was apparent.
It had the look of a 'perfect mirror car'.

A Thunderbird was the car that injured me the worst. I got roped into replacing the starter in the late 80's Fox platform T-Bird belonging to my roommate's girlfriend. As I was unbolting the starter, it slipped out of my hands and dropped right on my face. Ouch!
