I stopped and talked with the owner - as interesting as these cars are, he also had a 1967 Valiant or Dart, an old fastback Mustang, and something truly unique - a K-Car-based LeBaron with a 440. 😳

He said it was a body-off conversion. I wish he had volunteered to pop the hood. I imagine the F:R weight distribution might be extreme.

My Imperial was close to 5000 lbs -with the 440 4-bbl, performance was adequate, but not "scooty".

The horrendous fuel consumption meant I didn't often test the car's scoot capability often.
Truth! Watch that gas gauge move...

My brother's 440 could get 20 highway, but only with an ultra light foot.

Driving very conservatively, I could get 19 mpg (Imperial) on the highway at a steady 90 - 100 kph.

The other extreme was winter city driving - typically 6 mpg (Imperial).

The other frustrating thing was the factory Holley carburetor - the transverse pin supporting the float would come out of one side, causing very rough running. I carried tools and got pretty fast at taking the top off the carb and reinstalling the pin. A rebuild at a carburetor shop (now long defunct) did not help. Now I would probably put a drop off Seal-All in one of the holes.

I saw one BIG Chrysler boat at the Mission Raceway- that thing was quiet and fast.
