Is Valvoline conventional getting any better these days? Synpower is making claims most of us are alreayd aware of.
But what about the conventional?

can it get any clearer than this???

conventional motor oil gives mechanics steady work.

Most API SM oils are all the same IMO. Valvoline is a quality oil. They seem to be taking the Synthetic market more seriously. Their 5w40 and 5w50 are very good oils. They are also involved in Nascar.

It's ridiculous though that they still promote the 3,000 mile drain interval.

Mechanics are surely capable of advising extra work regardless of the oil used. This has been posted here before. Valvoline makes excellent products.

Listed in your owner's manual, this change interval represents the bare minimum required to keep your warranty in effect. After all, why would a carmaker pay to replace an engine that's been running on the same oil for 50,000 miles?

Drain early, drain often
Although some car manufacturers and motor oils claim that maintenance intervals may be extended, there are still many benefits to changing your oil every 3,000 miles. For starters, the emission of dangerous pollutants like hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide increase as oil ages. In other words, old oil increases air pollution.

IMO, Valvoline is as good as any other API SM oil on the market. I've never seen evidence that it didn't perform as well as Pennzoil, Mobil, QS, etc...

WOW! I never read that propaganda before, and am quite saddened by their consumption stance from a "green" perspective. I love the minimum requirements statement to keep your warranty. I would do absolutely nothing more than the minimum to keep a warranty...I don't understand how they could put anything else in writing beyond a minimum. The written standard is the written standard follow it and you are good. They really need to do a little marketing modernization on their oil.

Has Valvoline conventional been bad? There's nothing wrong with their line of products. Quality stuff. Who cares about the marketing. Most of us can see through the fluff and make educated choices.

If a quality product is marketed in a stupid way that offends me I buy another quality product to voice my disappointment. After reading the garbage that has been showing up on their web page I won't buy their products anymore. You guys will benefit when they run another huge promotion because some of us are PO'd at their marketing campaign and sales are down LOL.

I've already benefited by getting 8 gallons of Synpower for 9.99 ea. I hope you are right and I benefit again because you don't like their website.

if you inflate your tires with the hot air from the 2 presidential candidates, it will counteract the polutants caused by 3,001 mile oil.

I imagine you are referencing some of that silliness from the website. You should just ignore it, like me, then you can benefit from cheap Valvoline products too.

I think Valvoline was the first to start the "High Mileage" craze.

It's all about money, different companies using different ways of getting there. The fact that they blatantly promote the 3,000 mile drain interval in 2008 isn't good though.

But, what if they are on to something that we are not? What if good wear readings doesn't mean "clean engine"?
