I notice that Valvoline oil isn't as big as Mobil/Pennzoil.These two plus Amsoil seem to get more conversation going.I don't hear much about Valvoline Synpower synthetic only that it is not as good as Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum.Joe

Valvoline is a darn fine oil just like others but Pennzoil Conventional and Pennzoil Platinum seem to produce slightly better used oil analysis and are usually cheaper than Valvoline so I think this is why it has a bit of a stronger following.

I would use Valvoline in a heartbeat. I actually have 32 jugs of 5w30 I bought at a recent sale that I will be using this coming summer.

I used it in a Honda engine a few years ago, and it seemed great. Smoother than some that I tried.

I would definetely use any of their stuff if it was easier to find up here.

Their synthetics have been very below average until recently. Synpower is right up there with the others now.

Valvoline is a excellent oil. I use their conventional all the time in every vehicle I have owned. I love their gear oils too.

I have a hard time finding it (syn power) on sale in my area or I too would give it a shot. I liked the Max Life Full Synthetic offering when I did use it. Ashland and Petro Canada have similar processing techniques, so you know you are getting a high quality grp III.

Ashland buys their base oils from XOM and others. I don't think they produce their own.

I didn't like Synpower ~2 years ago when I tried the 10w30. The car didn't start well in the cold.

Things are likely different now. I'd give it another shot.

I think the original Valvoline Synthetics (PAO) were very good. Their first venture into gr. 3 may have been below average.

A few years back I would only use Valvoline on my wifes car. It ran great with it and the internals stayed very clean. I like their stuff. No longer own that car, wonder how the new owner is maintaining it.

It's 4x bet... oops, I meant 9x better than Mobil 1.

I used Valvoline and Maxlife for years, and now I use Napa brand conventional which is nearly identical to Valvoline branded oil. Never had any problems at all with any of them except that I got a little less MPG on Maxlife. I stocked up on a case of Napa 10W30 and a case of Napa 5W20 for my truck and gf's car when it was $1.99/qt.

I am thinking of changing over to Mobil Clean 5000 though. Saw it at Walmart yesterday, $2.37/qt. I think it would be good to use a good robust dino like MC 5000 for that price instead of paying a higher price for Valvoline or even Napa brand oil. I'll still use Napa ProSelect filters though. That's the best filter I have found in a normal $3.00 price range. Never had any problems with them.

Valvoline Synpower is NOT all grp III like Pennzoil Platium.
It's a mixture of grp III & IV.

Nothing wrong with Valvoiline oil. I know many people who use nothing but Valvoline in their everyday vehicles and never have had any issues.

Changed the GF's '05 Mariner's oil today with 5w-20 Valvoline conventional from a BOGO AAP sale from a year or so ago. Next change in 5K miles will be some FAR Valvoline Synpower 5w30 from O'Reilly from a couple of years ago. I actually pay full price for 20w-50 Maxlife for the old Beemer. And they all perform great, especially the Maxlife.

I completely disagree.

And I've read several times that PP does contain some PAO.
