Valvoline date codes.................

I forgot how to read Valvoline's date code, does anybody remember how?

There used to be several threads about this, but since the "search feature"

is about as helpful as asking 3 monkeys to balance my checkbook, I can't find them.

My bottle says: "K225H" I think that the "K" is the month (November), the "22" is the day of that month, and the "5" is the year. I think that's how to read it, but I would like someone to reassure me! (TallPaul where are you?)

Well, at least Valvoline has date codes where you don't have to bring your ultraviolet light to the store and ask to be allowed to plug it in so that you can check the dates on the Mobil 1 containers.

Thanks blupupher. I was using the search feature settings on the default settings. It was only looking back 1 week! My bad.

I have a bottle of M1 and it says X16A6

I could have sworn that I read on her that the Mobil code is the same as Valvoline's?

i.e. X16A6 = January 16, 2006 bottled at plant "X"

If you use this coding system and then go to the thread about the UV light, look at the code stamp, and compare it to the "secret code", I think they are the same.

I find the search cumbersome as well. I do a search for Valvoline date codes and get anything with the word Valv in it, such as valves,; dates, updated, dated, update, outdated, code, and codes. So it searched, and found a lot of threads that had parts of these words in there and I get tons of hits that way.

I agree with the above memo's on Valvoline date code sequence... I contacted Valvoline and requested how to interpret their date code system.... I received a nice long politically correct memo that states 1. every different oil plant uses their own date code sequence and as a result we cannot give you an answer... 2. Valvoline oil does not have a published shelf life ... however, you SHOULD SHAKE CONTAINER VIGEROUSLY to assure that any sediment in the bottom has re-mixed before you use it... 3. Please send us the date code shown on the container and we tell you the date of manufacture..... Whew, I am sure glad we cleared that mystery up...??

So, I just bought some Valvoline VR1 20W50 for a vintage car, off the store shelf at NAPA. The first part of the label code is F2818. So I interpret this to be June 28, 2018. So there are two digits for the year, not one as mentioned earlier.

I think, so first character is month, where A to L are January to December, second two digits are day of month, and next TWO digits are year.

Why some mystery, OBDII....standard platform, tire date code.... standard platform. What gives? what do the oil companies care if we know when its made, they have already sold it to the retailer and have made their money.
