Re oil consumptions, I had read reports of it from 1.8T owners specifically from using Mobil 1 0w40..for some reason.

I haven't heard of oil consumption with 1.8T's except older ones (100k miles). But I do know that my volvo burns a lot of oil with Mobil 1 0w-40. I cut my oil consumption by more than 50% switching to Maxlife Synthetic 5w30

Something almost as funny.

I was in a small town in Indiana for business this past week and I almost went into the local AutoZone to see if they had Max Life full synthetic on sale there too. Almost. It would not have been very convenient to pack a case in my suitcase for the flight home.

bobistheoilguy does tend to put a bit of a mind warp on reason when it come to checking out the oil on the shelf.

No, I don't know if they did or not. I resisted and did not stop and check.

Okey. I just came from a AZ and went ahead and cleaned the place of Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic oils. I scored 7 5w30s and 6 10w30s.

The cool AZ dude even let me in the oil storage room to shuffle through some oil bins. I found several Mobil 1 0w40 in the new bottles thinking they'd be for a buck. I let him scan one...no dice.

Thanks guys for your suggestions on which weight to run the Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic oils. I've decided to score them all since both do have equal pros and the fact that they all meet VW 502.00 for the 1.8T.

I'm pretty much set now oilwise of 502 oils for the Passat till the 100k powertrain warranty runs out(now at 49k+ miles)..

Congrats on the maxlife score vwoom.

BTW, since you are a VW guy, I just test drove a new Jetta today (the new model coming out). Awesome car. The car looks like a Toyota Corolla in photos, but looks much better in real life (almost like an Acura TSX with the clean lines). Plus it had no body roll around corners and made by Passat feel obsolete

Yep, I saw the car in person as well at the LAIAS. It does look better in real life than in those "Toyota" pics. Though VW should've kept some vague similarities from the MkIVs "carved-out-of-steel" solid Teutonic looks esp the front end. The Golf front looks too abrupt..too "Sienna-like".

The interior is a winner..but one thing I can critique on is the 3 HVAC round switches. When you turn them it feels too cheap..the "tin-ish" clicking feels like some cheap flea market toy.

But otherwise, the MkV its an overall improvement in all aspects over the A4 platform MkIVs..this new J5 is even starting to grow on me.

I can't wait to test drive these new VWs..esp the upcoming PQ46.

Now that you mention the switch, yeah I did notice it was kinda flimsy. I'm also not crazy about the front grill, but the car drove so nicely that I forgot about the downsides.

Scored yet another 10 Maxlife Syns/$2 but all 5w30 this time. I found them mixed in among regular Maxlifes.

I think I'll stop it from here...my total stash now at 126 qts.

Hey, that is the exact number of quarts I have--until two hours from now as I pour the 6 qt free Quaker State jug in to the F150. Then after a week I throw a whole bottle of Maxlife Engine Protector to see if it increases oil pressure. My guess is it won't. Thread for my experiment.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

VWOOM! WHERE are you scoring all of these goodies? I'm in Rancho Cucamonga. PM me with the location of any goodies you don't want to buy.
