Every single vehicle I own has developed some kind of oil leak. One of the benefits supposedly these HIGH MILEAGE oils have is to help STOP leaks and or prevent leaks.

Anyone else ? Thoughts ? I am about to swap back to normal oil. I wonder if maybe I did more harm then good to the seals with these high mileage oils ?

I moved to Maxlife in my old 4.0 Jeep Cherokee (XJ)for about 3 years before I got rid of it. Before, I had a slight, occasional drip from the rear main. The Maxlife stopped that within 2 OCI.

Concerning the rear main leak at least which is obvious in it state of "repair", the Castrol HM has appeared to have done well - almost stopped over this one OCI. I'm going to try Maxlife this winter as it's viscosity isn't as high as Castrol's in the 5w-30 variety and a filter other than MANN in effort to reduce the if-nothing-other-than-nagging lifter tick. I've yet to see an expanded view of the 5-cyl engine in my 850 to see where the oilway o-ring(s) are located that might also be playing a part in all this.

Take care.

I used some in the last change on my daughter's car, a '97 Dodge Avenger. The drips on the driveway have pretty much all cleared up. I think I'll try it in the wife's car next time, too.

What and how does the oil do to stop leak??? very curious. and i've been reading material on seal and ring and i am think some car manfs are doing a very ____ job by using inferior material. seam like if good maint. is done, cars with ____ seals and rings will ____ out regardless, just a matter of time. and replacing it is so expensive due to extensive labor involved.

sorry for the rant but i hate ____ car makers.

the esters used will soften and swell the seals which will help to seal aganst any rotating shafts which stops the leak.
