Vacation Travel Rent Or Use Your Vehicle

I think the answer to the question "Do you take your personal vehicle on a 2k road trip or rent?" lies in the question "Do you truly OWN your vehicle or are you paying monthly to use it?". If you don't have a clear title, preserving residual value thru mileage reduction might be the best strategy. Especially if the vehicle is still under warranty/time.

For a shorter vacation, I would fly. But if the vacation was 3-4 weeks I would drive and bring all plenty of clothes and toys to utilize on the vacation.

I went through this in '18 when I decided to take a 10 day, 5 national park road trip. Thought about taking the 4R vs a rental 4 cyl Camry. I would get a smoking deal through Hertz. Rental and gas would be cheaper than gas for the 4R. Then thought "WHY am I doing this?" I want the whole experience to be great! So I asked Hertz about a Vette and a 5.0 as backup. The pickup day came and I wasn't feeling the Vette as it was a convertible, light gold and had some Klingon looking wheels. The 5.0 made my day. Hit every want and more. Had an absolute blast on that trip and I ended up buying one of Hertz's 5.0s the next year...may be the same car, for all I know. I've taken this 5.0 on several road trips and its been very enjoyable. I enjoy driving and seeing the countryside. Road trips sometime make you feel like you HAVE TO get from point A to B. In this car, that changed to I GET TO drive from A to B.

Do you rent a vehicle for long trips like over 2000 miles plus total or use your own vehicle and why?
I would probably have to fly. I don't get enough time off of work to spend it driving. To me, a "vacation" is something like a Labor Day weekend plus the adjacent Friday off.

No way. The rolling road rocks me to sleep. 500 mi max per day. And that was when I could rent a Crown Vic or Marquis or Lesabre "trip mobile"
I suppose a Dodge Charger would be a good substitute these days - except when half the left-laners on the "eye" slow when they see me approaching at 85mph, My name not Leo

I remember i rented a 1991 Ford Taurus station wagon as new and I was nuts... I drove to Miami and back non stop to Maryland. It about killed me.

That thing was amazing for the day
I ran it high speed the whole way and got 30 mpg . Way ahead of it's time..
