Wanted to get everyone's opinion on this as I'm currently repowering my newly acquired bobcat.

My friend from work claims he put a couple predator single jugs in his mini bobcat but they" burn up " quick.

I'm putting a duromax 713 in my 76 mustang 440. I wanted the motor to have more oil capacity or at least a large cooler as anything air cooled will run warm when being used in 80 to 100 degree weather like my town.

I'm going to try and modify a remote oil filter kit on my motor and use the 51515 " old Ford filter " that uses a quart of oil.

I'm hoping between using 15w40, 50% more oil, and an oil cooler. I can get a lot of life from this motor, dare I say lifetime from a " here and there " user

My friend claims he got 10 hours from the last motor before it " burnt up "

For all I know, he may have used 5w30 oil and have the motor in a solid compartment

Interesting. I’d say you are on the right track- more oil, thicker oil, keep it cool. Were these gas 4 cylinders originally?

The motor in the skid steer was a 4 cylinder Ford 1.6 liter. "Identical " to a 70 pinto engine or the UK " Kent " motor.

All aftermarket parts are performance parts. So the cost goes up a little more than I wanted. I contemplated keeping it and slowly rebuilding it but I'm on the fence.

I do love seeing Ford numbers all over it.... I feel it's a privilege to have taken it apart being how is an industrial engine for a working person. I'm weird, sorry 🤣😅😂

This is the oil cooler I have experience with on a hot motorcycle. I mounted an 18" one the on front of the frame of a Santee Ridgid frame Harley with a fire breathing Evo motor. My 270 degree oil temps when it was 120° + degrees outside dropped to 180 at the hottest. It ran 170 while moving.

My oil bag only held 2.5 quarts 😭

Got the motor mounts made today and the oil sandwich assembled.

We talked about putting an electric fan in the swing door to throw air directly at the cooling fan on the motor. Once everything is duets m fitted, I thought about trying to leave areas at the front of the bobcat open to let the air out. The T handle section has a big opening

Be sure to post pictures and even a video when you are done!
Certainly will. The only information I've found was of the predator vtwins being used in various bobcats or tractors. Haven't seen anyone use the duromax. I'm also curious how easily it starts since it's 50cc more. It seemed like the predator units are hard starting no matter.

You are going about this backwards. The front of the engine needs to point towards the front of the skid steer so it blows the hot air at the back door and out. If you have it the other way it is just going to blow the hot air under your butt and on all the hydraulics.

Subframe is almost ready to go back in the skiddy

As far as hot air hitting me and the hydraulics, I'll have to adapt and overcome because I have no other choice.

I like it. The aux oil cooler is a nice add. Are you putting a 6” or so e-fan on it?

is the red sprocket some sort of drive coupling to the crankshaft?

this engine is going to work hard. I’d keep it at full rpm, and get a large radiator fan to always feed full airflow into the compartment. Note, the alternator won’t be spinning very quickly with the 1:1 pulley drive from the engine. So…. the fan needed to cool the engine could challenge battery charging, if the alternator is a smaller unit. BUT, it may be just fine. I’d say just make sure it can breathe well.

fun build!
