Using Lubegard Red on car with no issues?

Hello, I have a 2010 Civic with 35k miles and have no issues with the transmission. I have some Lubegard red left over from another car and was wondering if I should use it in this car? It is normally better to leave what works alone but if this stuff would benefit the transmission in the long run and since I already have it should I use it? The bottle says to use 1 ounce per quart of ATF (which I think is around 7-8 on a civic, not 100% sure) but I would probably only do like half of that.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Call them up for help. They make good products and don't do any spinning about their product applications.

It's a family owned and run business and all their products are made here.

Use with confidence

Hello, They say it's used by transmission rebuilders.
They also say it's a wax based lube. At least the word 'wax' is in their blurb.

I doubt it'd do any harm. Get the fluid clean while you research it.
I can tell you it improved my transmission's shifting noticeably. Kira

Lubegard red contains a small amount of friction modifier and mostly contains the LXE esters, antioxidants, and some phos anti-wear.

It's a good additive for a weaker mineral based ATF but not really needed if you're using good synthetic ATF already. If you don't have anywhere else to put it it won't hurt adding it!

Especially considering the different design of the Honda
auto box NO, do NOT use it! Use Honda specific ATF
and call it a day. I will say that you can use
an ATF fluid that meets Honda Z-1 or DW-1 specs as long as it's a well known reputable brand (Castrol IMV ATF) but
don't use after market additives.

Used to use it in AODE transmissions before the switch to Mercon V for the TC shudder. Worked to fix or prevent.

Recently put in in our high mileage FWD Olds to prevent known issues with valve body. Shifts better than before with no new problems, but thats mostly subjective at this point. Spec'd for Dex3.

Put in my F150 to help with sticky selenoids which had been replaced under warranty once, now I am outside of warranty. I sure hope its not helping because it has developed the slamming into D and the harsh 1-2 shift when cold again (now that the weather is warming up its not really an issue).

I like the stuff based on my experience with the AODE torque converter clutch and if their thermal and oxidation claims are true then thats a good thing. But I'm not sold on their claims regarding sticky solenoids!

I've used LG red in every A/T I've owned for the past 15 years and never had a transmission issue.
I used it in the problem prone BAXA in my 2001 Accord and it was still running great when I sold it at 110K.
I would use it in your Civic without hesitation...it's a great product IMO.

IMO the best thing you could do for your Honda is regular drain and fills. I would do one every year / 10,000 miles, this is my routine and many others do the same. Its super easy, 3 quarts out 3 quarts in and your done. The fluid always stays fresh and clean and shifts are timely and smooth. IMO there is no need for the Lubeguard unless your transmission is having issues and you want to throw a cheap fix at it, or your transmission is known to have issues...which from my understanding is not your case.

Drain and refill the OEM ATF and add in the leftover LubeGard Red 1 for improved longterm reliability.

I use it in my transmissions.

Never really noticed a difference.

But I'm a dumb gullible American and feel better just knowing it's in there.

Bad advice.Like putting a band aid on your finger in case you cut it later... Additives likely will not prevent a problem, proper maintenance will.

Assuming that the lowest bid OE spec fluid is up to the task of every possible scenario...

And, you shouldn't compare a machine to living people. But if you must, its like wearing a helmet or seatbelt. Bandaid before a cut makes no sense. PPE does.

I am not impressed in any OE fill or recommended maintence interval.

Wow, there is a pretty even split for and against it. I just got the car with 35k miles on it. I'm not sure if its ever had a transmission drain/fill. The maintenance records show it's had all of its maintenance at the dealer so IDK?

Either way I am going to do a drain/fill pretty soon with Honda fluid just so I know its been done. I will probably skip the Lubegard. The transmissions in the 8th gen civic aren't know for problems.

Thanks for your comments.

For what it's worth, I used it in my '12 Civic along with Mag 1 low vis synthetic ATF and had no issues, in fact I felt the shifting was better than the DW1. My wife traded it in but was performing great at 43K miles.

Having said that, do whatever makes you feel comfortable.
