If you want to see how far we've fallen, pick up an old copy of Dyke's Automobile and Gasoline Engine Encyclopedia.

I grabbed a copy from 1952 on Ebay not too long ago, and the amount of information it gives you is staggering.

I flat out love my Motor Manuals. Unfortunately they don't say anything about drinking battery water...

I grew up on Mitchell National Service Data manuals.

Now that I have a lot of vehicles where parts are going extinct, I need to find some Hollander interchange manuals.

The Highlander came with two owner's manuals, total of 980 pages. I still don't have a through knowledge of how some things work.

Some of the newer Fords don't come with a manual, you access it through the infotainment screen. We have had people want us in parts to print them out. It ends up taking about 2-3 reams of paper.

Realize also that the “infotainment” section has turned into its own manual in some cases. Valve adjustment is no longer needed but you need a book to figure out how to change from fm to am.
