Usefullnes of Max Performance Summer Tire ?

At 60mph Max performance tire will outdo any All season tire. Reason is that in order to be AS tire, tire can only have 75% of surface in contact with road. 25% are channels. That is most basic explanation, before we get into compound.
But yes, you can slow down 5mph and have maybe equal braking distnce as Max at 60mph. I mean, it would be interested test to conduct.
Still, we all drive more then 55 or 60mph.

You can skip tires all together when the car is parked!

You just implied that a performance tire is as safe at 60 MPH as a regular tire is at 50-55. Think about that for a second.

Yep, driven equally, the performance tire is safer. But how many people buying a UHP tire drive in a cautious manner? Sure they can drive a bit quicker and incur no more risk, but say 80mph vs 65mph in the rain... I think even my cars with ultra mediocre tires would have shorter real world stopping distances than all but the best performance cars, as the distance travelled before the driver reacts becomes quite significant as speed increases.
I am almost due for summer tires for the Focus and if I could get some super duper tires for not much more than a decent tire, I will, but I don't feel I need to spend $7-800(tires are expensive up here) for a set to get down the road safely either.
