2007 F150, 4.2 V6, 102K miles
At 24K miles I dropped the pan, changed the filter, and welded a threadolet onto my pan for a drain.
After that, every 24K-30K miles I would drain 4 qts. and add 4 new qts.
At 72K miles I dropped the pan again, new filter, and 4 qts.
I finally got around to doing my drain/add 4 qts. today. It looks as if I need to do a fluid exchange.

Your trans should last a long time doing that. The Accord in my sig gets a drain and fill every 10,000 miles / 1 year.

When I bought my truck new my Ford tech friend suggested that I do that trans service every 24-30K miles.
The fluid looks very dark in my pic but it was a nice bright red as it was draining.

Looks pretty good to me. If you can still see a red tint it's not that awful.

Oh, it's definitely red.
In 30K miles I am going to drop the pan, change the filter, add 4 qts., then pull the supply line and do a flush.

Looks good. I went the costly rout and added a PML oversize pan. Cost of pan is saved by me doing the drain/fill routine a few times over having dealer do it. You will come to love the drain...less than 10min and you all done!!

How many quarts do you get from your pan drop? PML has the oversize pan at 1 1/2 additional yet when I drain I get 7quarts all together.

I was able to find a new trans pan with drain plug for our friend's 02 caravan from Advance Auto Parts. This will allow me to exchange 4 or 5 quarts every year when we change her oil. After the coupon code, it came to $15 or so. Dorman brand.

I bought the truck new. In 2009 I did the drain to the pan. A few of my friends had me do the same thing to their pans.
The pan holds 4 qts.

Every vehicle I have owned with an auto transmission has had a drain plug in the pan.

What you are doing is fine. that fluid isnt burnt or black/brown.

no need for a flush.

My BMWs have a drain. When I was base-lining my current driver, I had the cooling lines off the radiator and hanging free from the frame for several months whilst I rebuilt the nose of the car. Somehow, I got a siphon going and drained the trans dry. I love the 4HP22 trans. because it is so durable.

That does make things easier, but it doesn't do anything for the stuff that clings to the bottom of the transmission pan.

That is why I drop the pan every so often.

My wife's bought new 2005 Explorer with 150,000 miles on it got it's transmission fluid changed every 25-30,000 miles. The first one the dealer did and it was a complete fluid exchange without dropping the pan and changing the filter. The rest of the changes were done at my mechanic's shop. He'd drop the pan, clean it and change the filter and fill it. Then he'd do a complete fluid exchange. The last change he said everything was so clean when he did the pan drop he just did the pan drop, new filter and refill the pan. He said it would be a waste to do a complete fluid exchange afterwards. Only Motorcraft brand Mercon V has been used as well as Motorcraft AT filters. The transmission shifts the same now as when she first got it new.
