I'm gonna say it's pretty darn fast for a three-ton vehicle.

"Fast" is a relative word. No one expects a stock truck weighing 3+tons to rip off 13 sec 1/4 miles. 6.5 sec to 60 is very respectable for a large truck. Few are quicker. 8 secs would be about average for a truck. 8 seconds is fast compared to a Focus ATX, Jetta 2.0, etc. etc. I can name many new vehicles that are slower: all CUVs (or mid-sized sedans) with 4 cylindars, etc.

"Fast compared to your SRT, or 5.0 Mustang?" NO.

For a three ton truck sporting 35" diameter tires from the factory, I'd take 6.5 to 60 any day. Is it a sports car? Was it designed to be a Lightning like truck? No. Would a sports car be able to do what this can all day long pounding across desert landscapes? Not nearly as well

Everything is relative.

Like I said before, I'm sure it would be marvelous off road where that long travel suspension is king, but on the street my little 5.3 Silverado could eat it alive!

Is your Silverado stock? I doubt a stock one could keep up.

It's not fast, a 12 second vehicle isn't "fast" either in my book, but the 6.2 Raptor is pretty quick for what it is.

The 2009 Silverado with the 403HP 6.2L V8 does 0-60 in 6.6 seconds. That is slower than the Raptor. The 5.3L is cited as doing it in 7.9 seconds.

All fall to their knees and worship the god Ford! Do I hear chanting?

But watch out for bone stock 05 Silverado's with a 5.3 and 3.73 gears/locker?

I'd be embarrassed.

But then I easily outrun the stock Silverado SS as long as we don't crack 80 or so. Not like it was ever held up as "fast".

And Ben, I've got a 2900 pound monster ready to show you what fast is any day. But I'm just like you, I only hold the SRT up against other similar vehicles. Fair is fair. So when you get a full luxo 4 door sedan in stock trim that can run 12.8x's all day long without any tuning or weight reduction or drag radials then you can start your mouth going!

We're in Bradenton often.

How does quoting numbers constitute worship?

So let's do the same with the Raptor. Comparing the 0-60 acceleration of a Raptor with an everyday half-ton pickup truck is not an apples-to-apples comparison. Yes, they both have pickup beds. But that'd be like comparing an STR-8 Charger to a Ford Fusion and claiming the comparison is valid because they both have four doors.

So your 5.3L Chevy will outrun it. Who cares? I'm not sure I see the point here.

It is only worship when it is so qualified, as in quoting the weight as an excuse for how it accelerates. I already praised the Raptor as an off road truck, my point is you then have to pay for all that road hugging weight.

You are completely correct! You missed the point entirely.

And my SRT comment was directed specifically to Ben, who is always quick to restate that he has no respect for a high twelve out of a car. You want me to pluck at your post like that? Not going to happen here.

nice contribution, meaningful, insightful, probably kind of deep?

If you read what I posted and take it in context, I LIKE the Raptor, I just think it's a dog when driven on pavement.

I still do.

I don't think it was an excuse. I think it was given as context for the "fast" term.

Granted, but an exercise in semantics. Then you've got to clarify "fast" versus "quick".

Relative Fast versus relative quick? Relative to weight? Displacement? Gearing?

I'll stop now.

The stock Silverado with the 412HP 6.2L has essentially the same quoted 0-60 time as the Raptor (well, 1 tenth slower, but meh). Is it "slow" too?

You praised your Silverado for apparently being faster than the Raptor (6.2L or 5.4L you didn't specify, though there is a 100+HP rift and over a second difference between the two) yet the data for the Silverado doesn't support this. And, on paper, which are the numbers that are being cited for the Raptor, the 5.3L Silverado is significantly slower than the Raptor, and the Raptor is on-par (slightly quicker) than the 6.2L Silverado. So how is it a dog? Is the 6.2L Silverado a dog? Because it makes similar power and cuts similar 0-60's, so I really don't "get" your basis for this criticism.

I'm still waiting for this to be backed up.
