UPF63R AC Delco

Does anyone know if the MicroGard Select (MSL10412) is an acceptable replacement for the UPF63R? From reading here it seems to have a thicker case with premium features like what the above TSB calls out for the UPF63R.
Go to the O'Reilly Auto Parts website and put your vehicles in their filter look-up tool. It will show all the filter's they sell for your vehicle look-up, and the MicroGard Select will be in the list.

Yes sir, I know what part number the MicroGard is but the TSB posted here calls for the UPF63R specifically for the thicker casing. Seemingly most all other filters are not recommended so I’m wondering if the the thicker casing of the MicroGard would be an equivalent to the one GMC specifies.

The MicroGard Select seems to have a pretty heavy can construction, so if you want that feature then go for the MG Select for your application. The Fram Endurance might also be an option.

GM dealer tech here, we use GM EPC(Electronic Parts Catalog) to find out what filter we suppose to put on.
UPF63R is basically exclusive to GM 3.6 v6 engines, I cannot remeber any other engine calls for that.
But the UPF63R is for sure a very premium filter, it is much heavier than the regular PF63.
Other than price difference and availability (last year during the UAW strike even the supply of oil filter was interrupted for few weeks here in Canada, UPF63R is not something we keep in stock a lot so I had to use PF63 few times), I would use it on my own truck no question.
