I have a 2021 GMC Sierra w/ 6.2 and getting ready to do my oil change so I did some oil filter research here on the forum.I decided to go with the AC. UPF63R because I get a discount at GMC and Walmart doesn’t have anything in stock anymore.
The gmpartscenter website says the UPF63R doesn’t fit my application. So my question is anyone here actually using this filter on the late model Gm 6.2. Thanks

I'm not using the UPF63R, but I went to two online sites, one ACDelco parts look up and also Rock Auto, both show it to be proper option/choice for vehicle listed. Rock Auto you can find. Linked is the ACDelco parts look up site I referenced, enter vehicle info from drop down menu, type in oil filter, display parts. UPF63R one of four PF63 options.

The GM catalog only lists he regular PF63 for the L87 6.2L engine. THE 63R is supposed to have a higher bypass pressure I believe. I honestly don't see why you couldn't use it, I would personally.

interesting to note and some evidence that those lists may be wonky...I just checked Sayjac's link for an oil filter for my 2016 CTS V-Sport Premium 3.6 TT and it shows there is NO oil filter made by GM/AC Delco to fit my car...mine usually takes the PF-63/UPF-63R...

edited to add perhaps it is that parts site as it also doesn't list ANY filter available for the GF's 2013 Chevrolet Malibu 3LT with the 2.0T...that car uses the PF-64/UPF-64R...

RockAuto still shows both of those filters being the right filter choices for the two cars I searched for...

Our new to us CPO Cadillac XT6 calls out the UPF63R in the owners manual. I use the PF63 in my truck. I did an early oil change on the XT6 this week, and the Cadillac dealer was running a PF63 on it??? You would think they’d know better??? It has a UPF63R on it now. They weigh about 2X as much as the PF63.

I love how GM sticks a PF 48 sixes fikter on vehicle then says replace with PF63🤔🤔

I decided recently to see about a viable alternative to the UPF63R. No dice. If you’re in something with the 3.6 high feature engine, best stick with that. The Fram Ultra 10575 would work but the bypass pressure listed is something like 16-28. ?? What? I know the ACDelco 63e is 22psi and somebody here says GM may have pushed the UPF63R to 33psi now so the Fram Ultra (which is a good filter) is out. I did run the PF63e until I cut one open and found the media open where it is (was) glued. By the way. Many oil manufacturers are now selling DEXOS1Gen3. Pennzoil, Valvoline, etc. Gen 3 is supposed be big for fuel economy.

I really like them on the Cadillac. They’re built like a tank!

I actually wont go to one Cadillac dealer here in the LA area, just becasue of that issue, they use the Cheap Pf63 on their oil changes, while another dealer actually uses the correct UPF63R.....

if it is what your vehicle calls for they should use it...mine doesn't call for it either in the owners manual or the latest (or any other) TSB...

many higher performance engines like the 3.6TT LF3/LF4 are doing just fine with the "cheap" PF63...but I agree if you have an LGX or LGW or any other that calls for the UPF63 filter, it should get it...

Good luck with your ride

Does anyone know if the MicroGard Select (MSL10412) is an acceptable replacement for the UPF63R? From reading here it seems to have a thicker case with premium features like what the above TSB calls out for the UPF63R.
