Well, mechanic couldn't figure it out. Said it was probably the fuel pump, but also said it could be a simple relay or even something else. Didn't want to fork out the money for a repair guessing game, so last night we traded it in for a 2011 Hyundai Elantra.

Good deal. That's one way to fix a car problem

I've heard lots of good things about Hyundais these days, I'm sure your wife will like it.

Did he check fuel pressure, alternator, starter, vaccum leaks?
Nice choice on the new car. I'm sure it will last you a long time. 100kwarranty right?

Yea, he checked all of those, but diagnosing a fuel pump can be a pain until it actually stops working. We could ahve waited for that to happen, but what if it happened while on the freeway or a busy interestion? Yes, buying teh elantra was a expensive solution, but we had planned on buying new this summer, so we ended up buying early.

Hyundai built a 1.4 billion dollar plant and hired over 2,500 people in Alabama to build the Elantra and Sonata. I'd say those 2,500 people really appreciate your support!

if you had read all of my posts, you would have noticed that I had posted that we had planned on buying new this summer and trading in the contour anyways. Because of this issue with the contour we decided to buy now instead of forking out more money. I'm somewhat disappointed too that I didn't have the car longer because I tend to drive them till at least 150,000 miles. I think most people here would agree that when you start to fork out big $$ for repairs frequently, it’s a time to get rid of it. Since we had forked out $1400 in November and now $800 to 900 for the fuel pump, it was time to say good bye.

And I do have a good and honest mechanic.
