This an analysis of a sample of the ATF in our '06 Sprinter taken as I was changing it for the second time. The vehicle currently has around 154K on it, and 30K on the ATF. I will pull a sample at 180K and see how it looks.

I did the rear end as recommended, at the 4th maintenance service (120K miles)

Rather than just draining thru the plug, I pulled the pumpkin so I could have a look at the gears and the interior .... the gear oil was clean and there no sludge or metal in the bottom of the housing - in fact, I sopped up the remaining gear oil in the bottom of the axle housing with paper towels .... and there was no discoloration on the towels - other than what clean, amber (transparent) gear oil would make. (I was amazed)

Of course, it was built in der Vaterland ....

Yes, I did.

The original recommendation from MB - back in '03 I think, when they introduced the vehicle here in the US - was only once @ 80K miles

.... apparently a little too optimistic

.... at some point (by the time I had gotten the vehicle in '06) it was revised to once every 60K miles.
