It's not bad, just unnecessary. You're adding extra friction and parasitic drag which might reduce your fuel economy a fraction of a percent. If this is a high mileage motor, I wouldn't sweat using a 40 weight oil. Lots of folks shy away from 40 weights because Honda was one of the xw-20 pioneers, and most think thinner is better.
Also it won't do squat to the VTEC solenoids, it's a great sounding theory since they are hydraulically activated, but in practice it's all in people's heads. These same engines work all over the world running everything from 5w-20 in North America to 20w-50 in some parts overseas.
