My Blackstone test kit arrived today in the mail. I have just over 10k miles on my first fill of Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30. I changed my P1 filter at 7.5k with another P1 as I planned a 14k OCI. Doing some searching on used oil analysis for Mobil 1 Extended Performance here I got the impression it may not be wise to run it to even 14k as it's advertised up to 15k OCI. I read the oil was pretty much 'shot' after 10k miles although not sure of veh/application, etc. Should I just change it now and send the sample in or go longer? Here's my factors:

-My daily commute is 60 miles RT all hwy at hwy speed. Rarely do I idle in traffic.
-200,500 miles on car all with synthetic 5w30 oil
-I'm pretty conservative with my car and don't beat on it too bad

When I change I'm using Mobil 1 Extended Performance w/ Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter. Originally, I was looking forward to a 1/yr OCI believing Mobil 1 Extended Performance would be as advertised. I'm hoping that's still the case!

For your car, it would have been wise to do a used oil analysis to a get a base at 10 K and based on the results incrementally upped/lowered the OCI. Curious to the findings but I think you should change it ASAP and based on the report adjust.

A friend is using Mobil 1 5w30 Extended Performance in his 04 Windstar with 170K. With 15K OCIs his engine is clean, quite, and doesn't need top off during the 15K. He does this with just the one filter.

I'm moving to 8k with M1 and P1 with Nissan Armada valve train tends to tear up oils. I'd think with the extended M1 you should be good past 10k. Interested to see the results.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about filter changes halfway through the OCI and wouldn't worry about going the full 14k if your commute is as you describe.

Paying extra for TBN and TAN is worthwhile as well.

Well, I changed at 10,200 miles on the oil. I've got my sample all set to send back to Blackstone. I'm doing a TBN test, too. I probably could have gone longer but changed it this morning for two main reasons:

a. This is the longest OCI I've done and it made me anxious.

b. I was up before the wife and kids with time to do it on this Memorial Day weekend.

I took 20+ minute hwy drive and got my sample mid-stream as directed. I'm excited to get the results of my first UOA. I'm glad this forum exists because my wife couldn't care less and my two year old twins aren't old enough yet!
