Hi all, I have never had a used oil analysis done but plan to once it gets warm enough to change my own oil again. My question is, lets say I had Pennzoil Platinum as my previous oil, and I now have 5K on Castrol GTX that I want to get tested. Will there be any contamination from the Pennzoil that would show up on a used oil analysis without me knowing? Thanks!

I wouldn't call it contamination but yes you will see the additives from the previous fill on the used oil analysis. Right now for instance I have PP in my Buick, but my last fill was Kendal GT1 with titanium, so I may have some titanium show up in my used oil analysis which is not present in PP.

In almost all cases what you would be looking for to see if the engine is doing fine are contaminants (iron or copper aluminum) or dirt (silicon) or fuel or coolant.
Changing oils will not effect those numbers.

Exactly. What you might see is a little bit of the leftover add pack from the previous oil, for example some lingering moly, if the previous oil used some but the current oil didn't. No effect on wear metals.
