I started my 2010 Scion XD early last week. I run 15w-40. On start up I hear this ticking! What! OMG! NO! I sit in the car listening as the 1.8 Toyota engine warms and the ticking is constant! I rev it a bit and the ticking is still steady. I roll the window down and then I feel shook STOOPID. I live next to a sod farm and my neighbor just built one of those rolling field irrigation systems. He set the timer to start watering that morning before sun up and it makes this steady ticking noise as the water pressure moves the giant wheels and watering apparatus! Whew!

That happened to me but electrical wiring on a house I just bought. First day/night working on it, It was late, I worked all day, re-wired a switch & outlet. Box was a little tight and as I'm screwing the cover plate on I hear a sizzle sound (how do you spell sssssssssssss?) I'm freaking out like F*** my house is burning down. It was the neighbors Hunter rotary sprinklers turning on and the air was purging first.
I left all the stuff where it was and went to bed.

Years ago, incredible sharp popping and 'clacking' came from what I thought was a CV joint as I reversed down the driveway.
While impossible to describe with words, I'd say the harsh noise was what you'd expect if you dropped ball bearings into a blender.
I FREAKED.
Turned out it was 3 teams of carpenters working on 3 nearby houses who began hammering all at the same time.
The hard rapping and echos thereof got me good.
