If I want a great mower transmission, what do I look for? It seems Parker is the Mac daddy. It seems I need to go to 3100 in “Tough Torque”.

I want at least the lowest grade I can service.

I mow 2 hilly acres with a Cub Cadet that has ZT-2800 hydros. That is the lowest entry from Hydrogear with serviceable filters.

Anything with serviceable filters and fluid is really all you need. The sealed transmissions still hold up to homeowner use for most people. I have two neighbors with zero turns that have the non-serviceable transmissions, both mowers have over 500 hours on them and aren't used carefully.

Hydro Gear 2800 now probably 3100 is entry level for serviceable.
The 3100s seem pretty stout and very clean. I changed out Amsoil hydro gear oil with 140 hours and it literally looked the same as when it had gone in. The HPL hydro oil I put in will probably be kept in at least 400 hours total, if not longer. With the capacity of the 3100 and the maximum speed, even 300 hours is barely 2000 miles; any respectable oil should be able to do this without any issue at all.

While I like the serviceability, it’s probably not needed as proven by the 500+ hour non-serviceable units that are still functioning perfectly. Plus, the WIX SL10102 filters are so stupidly priced these days I just went back to the OEM HydroGear filters at less than half price of WIX.

That's ridiculously high! I thought my cartridge style "deere" transmission filters were expensive at approx $40/ea. They have no competition except for knock off chinesium amazon filters with unknown quality. The spin on filters should have an alternative equivalent that's also good....right?

Have a 2000 model Wright Stander with divorced pumps and motors(parker), never had any problems, has one big oil tank and one filter for the whole system.
Have a Ferris ZTR that has Hydrogear ZT3400 units, each has its own expansion tank and filter on it. No issues with those either.
