Hey all. I started noticing a burning oil smell on my grand prix the other day, and when i went to investigage, i saw that oil has been leaking out of the valve cover onto the exhaust manifold. So i replaced the gasket today, and took a few pics.

I bought the car in november of 08 with 75000 miles, and started running valvoline maxlife. After 2 OCIs of that, i switched to full synthetic. Since then it has mostly received pennzoil platinum, with some valvoline synpower every now and then. ive ran mobil 1 in it twice, years ago. the car has 146,000 miles today..

Sorry for the picture quality (bluriness). They were taken with my droid bionic, which somehow, with its supposed 8 megapixel camera, takes worse quality pics then my flip phone 2 years ago did..

OCIs were usually 5000ish miles. now that im travelling 80 miles a day for school, i change it every quarter, which is anywhere between 5000-7000 miles. It does not use a drop of oil between OCI's. But it did manage to lose almost half a quart in the last week, with the bad gasket

On our 2000 SSEI with the supercharged 3.8L we ran the oil out to 10k miles on Mobil 1 5w30. We put 242k miles on that car and that engine ran strong with about 1/4 qt. of oil use between oil changes. One of the best motors GM ever made. You have a lot of miles left in yours.

Just my luck, I sell a car for consuming oil for another that consumes the exact same amount. I'm hoping its just the initial switchover to syn, not the defective valve seal TSB for the 2005-2008 Gen III
