That's at 112K miles. I obtained this undermaintained 4.0L at 60K.
Oil History (roughly):
1st 2K OCIs - Havoline Synthetic 10w30 (FL1As)
1 Dealer change (Valvoline bulk)
3 3K OCIs - Delo 400 + VSOT (ST8A)
Thermostat went bad at 2nd Delo OCI (stuck open)
Last Delo OCI - added Auto RX and new FL1A
On S7000 for 1 OCI and and about to finish the 2nd with Wix 51515 filter.

My dad took the picture... had I been there, I could of gotten more angles.

It's fine put that valve cover back on and drive! That hunk of iron is not a baeuty to look at but it's a workhorse. The parts look fine, keep on trucking. If you kkeep the cooling and crankcase ventilation in order this engien needs little.

That was taken a few weeks ago actually. I'm dumping this oil at 6K because the valve cover was leaking and just incase anything got in.

I'm out and since I'm going to be putting on miles very very quickly this month and upcoming semester, I had to buy whatever I could get my hands on a a good price. The QTorque Power was buy one get one and same with Pennzoil Platinum. All in 10w30 but I do have some Valvoline SynPower Oil Treatment. I will probably buy some S7000 again... but I might be done with the Jeep at that point.

only a slight amount of discolorization....no sludge, just pooled oil in rockers

this beast will be running far after Jeep is tired of looking at it setting in the driveway and dreaming of that hot conv. with a long legged redhead ready to make a weekend beach run for fun

jeep, any uoa's to go alone with oil reports?
interesting to see uoa's after several oil brand changes

I haven't had a chance to do a UOA. I'm gonna hold out till I graduate... i think it would be interesting to see what a UOA looks like after its been driven by a college student.

I dunno about you guys but I would say it looks quite dirty. Lots of varnish!

You should have seen my '64 with a 350 transplant with super high miles. It was ugggly. I could have vacuumed the crust out of it. Lucky it burned a valve and I got a new set of heads for it.

I think it looks great. The metal is only "bronzed" ..no visible accumulations.

Good work. The only thing that would make it better is if it had an aluminum head and some shiny OHC to look at.

I'll add that the 4.0, at least in later offerings, doesn't have a whole lot of oil flow up top. It's not anywhere near like a SBC in terms of puking out the pushrods.

Looks about average for the mileage.

Still, I'd have cleaned that engine's exterior before popping the cover off.

Good luck with it.

I should add that this Jeep frequents mud fields. So its dirty I know. I wouldn't say the engine is dirty, just varnished. I remember reading something about "Pennzoil" engines looking like this. Its just a varnish. You also have to realize, the 4.0L was based off an engine designed in the 1960s.

I try. I just wish the rest of the vehicle were as bulletproof as the engine.

How do ya'll clean your engine bay? When ever I do it, it doesn't last long and doesn't look all that great. Any suggestions?
