Noticed a good bit of oil accumulating around the oil pan recently and narrowed it down to the vvt solenoid or valve cover, or both. Got the parts and cracked her open.

2008 Civic with 230k on it. Was dealer serviced up to 100k. OCI’s were around 8k which is typically where the OLM says to. Couple OCI’s stretched to 10k or so. After that 3 x 10k OCIs with M1HM,PP,superTech. Then the last 100k or so followed OLM so roughly 7-8k with mostly Chevron Supreme SynBlend. Always 5w-30.

Not an oil burner. Might consume 1/2 quart over 10k if guessing. Never kept track tbh because it wasn’t enough to be concerned about. Anyways, check it out…

…more so imo considering oci profile and majority oil type used.
Agreed, however I think this motor is Honda engineering at its best. Could probably run this thing on vegetable oil.
It looks like the half nearest the timing chain is a little darker. Still looks great! The R18A1 is a great engine.
You’re correct, there definitely is a distinct increased varnish in the left vs. right. Not sure what that’s all about.
