Hello,

Consulting the masses for some feedback. Best Buy has multiple 34" monitors on decent sales right now. I am looking to make a purchase, and there are at least a handful of good options. I want to spend around $250 or less. I am not a gamer...this will be used purely for productivity. Basic user with a laptop that will be plugged in via HDMI. A few I am considering are:

-Samsung ViewFinity S5 - $220 marked down from $330. I'm leaning towards this one as it's not gaming-focused. I'm impartial to a curved screen and being this one is not curved it is somewhat more appealing. I have a curved 38" at work which I like, so not opposed.

-Acer Nitro ED340 - $250 marked down from $420. At face value it's a better deal but more gaming-oriented. Better contrast ratio but 250 nits of brightness seems low.

-Samsung Odyssey G5 - $260 marked down from $400. Similar concerns as I have for the Acer.

What are you using now and what are you looking for? If you want a high end recommendation I have a 240Hz 1440P OLED.. What I do say is if you're competitive on any game or take FPS seriously I don't recommend it. But the LG OLED's I have are amazing. Asus makes a lot of monitors that are LG ripoffs with better warranties and stupid little features.

Currently have (2) 22" Acer monitors...basic features. Like I said in my opener I want to stay around the $250ish area and I don't game.

I picked up a Dell S3425DW a few months ago, love it.
Yeah that's the baby brother to the one I have at work...they are nice but more than I want to spend for my limited home use.

I'm sorry I did not register that at all.. I'd look at the used market and try to get a deal on specifically a non gaming monitor then... Whenever you go cheap on the new monitors for gaming especially they look horrible.. If you are in a big city just check on Facebook marketplace and the like.. Just don't buy a OLED used.

I dont have much experience with ultrawides but out of those 3 choices, the first one, Samsung ViewFinity. Some full screen applications don't scale well on curved screens, so the edges of the curved screen screws with your peripheral vision.

My friend has the Odessey G5, I'm not too impressed with it. It's too bulky and heavy IMO for daily use.

We bought a couple of Odyssey curved monitors at my old job for a few "power users" who needed them. 2k, 32''.

They were nice but not the sleekest design and definitely on the bulky side. I'm sure there were much better ones for not much more money.

With that said ... I'd buy one if the price was right. I used it for a few days and found that I actually liked the curved screen.

The Odessey G5 looked really weird to me, proportion size. 32" as an ultrawide doesn't really do it for me because it looks so narrow; it would have to be 40" or bigger for me for an ultrawide.

Ended up going with the Samsung, feel like it was the right move. Being flat and not curved I think I get a slight bit of distortion when looking at the edges, but it could be that I'm just seated a little too close too. I don't seem to have this issue on my curved 38" at work.

This is what I have for WFH, 45" 240hz 1440p OLED, LG something or another. I love it. It's way outside the OPs price range though at $1299 for the current model.

It cost more than my main 75" TV in the living room. But I spend a lot of time on the computer so it's worth it to me.
