Ultra vs new Platinum MSDS

You may be right. On the other hand, one would assume an existing MSDS would be the starting point for a new one. If they're both the same GTL, why wouldn't they just repeat the Ultra verbiage in the Platinum MSDS? It's not like anyone but the few hundred of us here ever read the darn things, so they wouldnt be harming Ultra's position as their top-tier lubricant.

Plus, the Ultra and Platinum MSDS documents were written on the same date, so it seems to me the difference is intentional. And I can't imagine manufacturing a difference just to confuse us is worth the effort.

One other point suggesting these base stocks are actually different: according to the MSDS, Ultra has a flash point of 224C, Platinum 280C. Pretty big difference for an important safety value, especially with the lesser product having a higher number.

Some MSDS' are intentionally vague in order to protect Intellectual Property.

Absolutely. I was reviewing a motor oil MSDS a couple weeks ago, and all it listed were ZDDP and "proprietary compounds."
