I use the ultra more often due to price and availability at Wal mart, platinums i have to order through napa and RP's through o reilly. anyone have any data that shows which one flows the best and has the best efficiency? No, it's just the bottom of the line Frams that aren't bad, but really are not as good a product as other filters at the same price (standard purolator, wix). The Fram Ultra is a pretty well made filter.
It's hard to make a generalization about efficiency besides what the manufacturer publishes. Flow rate as well, since the media area changes so much from size to size but also manufacturer to manufacturer.
I'd use any of those three, but probably wouldn't pay the premium for the RP filter.

I'm using a RP filter right now.
But only because I had a coupon, maybe 2 years ago, that brought the price down to $10.
I have a few platinums on hand, but that's cause I picked them up while they were on sale.
I'd use FRAM Ultra's but since I have the other two I'm just going to stick with what I have.
But price point is a good factor in these filters. So little is published on them other than basic information and autopsy photos.
That all being said, all my engines are clean, so on any of these premium filters I run 2x intervals on the filter.
I may send off a used oil analysis and dissect a filter and start running 3x intervals on a filter, but that may take me a couple years to establish a baseline in order to do that.
I'm not driving like I used to.

Those are all full synthetic media, so they all will flow WAY more than you engine could ever put out and tax them.

Reason I ask is I got one on sale a AAP
on the box it says 100% syn media
and it says catches 99% of DIRT...
However IMO they are to expensive unless you get one on a deal or on sale.
however what do you all think of K&N and does anyone use them exclusively?
The one I have is made in USA, I saw at AZ they say made in KOERA now and I could tell in the Quality it didnt feel as well made or look it. IMO
However I have a FRAM ULTRA on my car now.

There are many good products that will more the suffice for what you need.

Yeah ... but at what sized particles? Catching 99% of particles @ 100 microns or larger isn't very good.
You see, a lot of filter manufacturers don't want to tell you the other half of the equation of efficiency ... ie, the particle size that there % efficiency claim is at.
The K&N is probably not too bad ... but if you don't know the % @ specific micron size you really don't know what the real efficiency is.
