free, stable, etc etc etc.

I upgraded to the RC version a few days ago and it appears boot times are even better than 9.10.

If you haven't tried it by now, not sure where you have been.

Contrary to constantly repeated inaccuracies it supports scanners and printers. (years and years ago.)

Alternate install version supports encrypted LVM

Regardless of your OS preference we can agree choice is good.

I'm waiting about a week or so then I'll upgrade. I never want to be first on line for new updates for obvious reasons. Let it shake out for a while and see what happens.

One of the beta issues was partitioner problems which made me very nervous since I run dual boot.

I installed it both on my laptop and desktop without issue. Laptop dual boots Windows Vista or Linux and desktop has Windows 7 on one hard drive, two versions of Linux on the other.

No problems.

I upgraded my 9.10 running on a virtual machine last night and it seems to work fine. I haven't used it much but the windows open/close/minimize is on the left side of the windows now. That is about as far as I got with it so far.

Here is how to move the buttons to the right in Ubuntu 10.04 if you desire.

Decided to bite the bullet and upgraded. Install went fine. I have also noticed an increase in boot speed. But I definitely don't like the Window buttons on the left so I applied the fix to move them to the right. All is well now.

Maybe that was an "unintended feature." After all, is wiping out a Windows partition really a bad thing?

Upgraded the netbook and kids' computer. Thanks to SrDriver on the link for getting the buttons back to the right side.

I'll probably try next. That one thing I like about Linux. One can tarball one's entire Linux partition and revert very easily if one doesn't like the new system.

Does anyone know how to get the back key working with Ubuntu as when I hit the back key(on the keyboard) it does not work...I have to scroll to the back arrow on the toolbar.

I upgraded a 9.10 installation. It knocked out my XP bootloader, but nothing FIXMBR and FIXBOOT wouldn't fix. First time I've done an Ubuntu upgrade too (as opposed to a full clean installation).

For the first part, there used to be a way to do it with Evolution. I've heard of ways to do it in Firefox, too. Check the Ubuntu forums.

As for the latter problem, go under system then preferences and check keyboard out. There's a little test thing. Then, maybe check out your keyboard shortcuts. Perhaps, for some strange reason, the backspace got commandeered for a shortcut somewhere.

I use Thunderbird in both Linux and Windows.

Have 6 email accounts setup 3 POP3 and 3 IMAP including Hotmail and two with my ISP.

Thanks for the inadvertent reminder. I meant Thunderbird, not Firefox. I'm still used to the old days of Netscape having everything integrated, I guess.

Upgrade my netbook from 9.04 and am pretty happy. I don't like how they downgraded the NBR when they went o 9.10, but the performance improvements are noticeable. I also updated my Kubuntu Desktop, but didn't notice any real improvements there. Java got replaced which screwed up my banking site.

I also upgraded my dad's computer. I think the boot time is better but it seems to be more resource intensive on his computer(PIII with 384 MB RAM). Good thing I'm getting him an upgrade.
