Type F Tranny Fluid ?'s

I have some Type F Transmission Fluid which is in un-opened plastic qt. bottles, and is several years old. It is spec'd for my PS in my 88 Ford E-150. I flushed the fluid about 30,000 miles ago and would like to do it again. Would it be safe to use this old Type-F transmission fluid?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I would not.
Cost vs. risk for a transmission situation just isn'e worth it.

Yes the PS fluid was Type-F as per the owners man. The Fluid is however at best guess about 15 years old. The containers are still sealed Quaker State, green plastic bottles.

Yes, but apparantly the only formulation that you can be sure is like the original approved fluid is the Ford Motorcraft brand.

Thanks: If I can find Type-F it has to be MC brand? The old stuff I used years ago was QS. Is there a safe substitute for MC Type F for my PS unit? I have pampered this van for over 20 years now.

I don't see anything wrong with using the commonly available Valvoline Power Steering Fluid. It's basically ATF without the color or additives.

A few companies still bottle Type F, Supertech for example..

I can't say we tried the supertech product but we tried several and the only one that we could confirm (by analysis and testing) was a real type F was the Motorcraft product. It's another of these situations where many products have been altered but are still sold purporting to be something that they really are not.

Checker has Chevron Type F transmission fluid for $0.99/qt after rebate until 2/21. Limit 4 for the rebate.

AAP had Castrol Type-F said it meets Ford Specs for cars requiring Ford Type-F Fluid. I had used QS Type-F for the last 30,000 miles without a problem.

Any reason why AMSOIL ATF couldn't be used in place of the Type F for power steering unit?

Napa sells Type FA fluid (same as Type F). It's the Napa store brand (Valvoline). Part# 75-205. It says it meets Ford spec M2C33-F.
