Two oil recommendations for a new guy

Hello all,

New to the forum. Recently picked up a car and want oil recommendations on both that and my daily, just to expand my horizon. Feel free to give me a few to pick from if you can't decide

1966 Ford Thunderbird
390 Ford FE V8
C6 Automatic
80,000 miles NO REBUILD
Little to no smoke on start-up. Very little oil consumption (per old owner)
Rear main leak (dont they all), a little front crank seal seepage
Driven in summers, stored winters

Also, 10W30 or 10W40?

1999 Ford Ranger
2.5L I4 - Manual 5 sp
125K miles. NO consumption, no leaks

Will run 5W20 per Ford TSB
Dyno oil is fine by me. I have access to a lift, oil changes=quick

Try Maxlife for both. For the T-bird, 10w40

Pennzoil in the Ranger.

For the t-bird I'd start with an hdeo conventional in a 10w30 flavour. If oil consumption is too excessive move up to a 15w40 hdeo. I assume its a summer car.

The ranger depends on how you want to maintain it. You can use a conventional for 5000 miles or a syn for 10000 miles.
I just saw a Kendall semi syn state it can do 10000 miles. That's a pretty good value.
I'm a pennzoil guy so I suggest whatever syn is on rollback whether its Quaker State Ultimate Durability or Pennzoil Platinum and run it 10000 miles or Pennzoil conventional for 5000.

I dont mind doing oil changes for conventional. Its nice to get under the truck and see what might have gone wrong

GC oil is a great oil and it is good for those leaky main seals.

As mentioned earlier I'd use a 10w30 HDEO in the T-Bird
In the Ranger I'd go with Pennzoil Conventional or Mobil Super 5000 5w30 seeing as there's no consumption

If you're running 5W-20 in the Ranger,, check your local O'Reilly Auto Parts for the clearance Pennzoil Platinum at $2.57/quart.

+1 - simple and cheap at Walmart right now. $16.27 per 5 qt jug - $11.27 if you use the Walmart printable coupon.
