Both 15w40.

On the one hand we have Kendall Super-D XA 15w40. Below is the link to the UOA from PQIA

Next we have Motorcraft 15w40 Diesel Super Duty Formula. Also is the UOA from PQIA.

The reason for my question is the Motorcraft is marketed as "not for use in gasoline engines with catalysts", while the other claims it's perfectly fine (or at the very least, doesn't say it's NOT recommended).
Is it because of the additional Magnesium (almost twice of that in the Kendall oil?

The vehicle in question is the BMW in my sig. I'd like to run a conventional that has more anti-wear additives, similar to what was offered in oils when it was new.
Currently I'm running Rotella T4, but the additive package in the Motorcraft looks much more robust.
My car has a cat from new that I'd like to retain as stock as these cars are appreciating in value. I also like a quiet car.
I presume since my car does not burn any noticeable amount of oil, that I should be ok.

thanks in advance

i also assume that only engines consuming oil are in issue with the cats, but having a high $$$ ride + being older with no warranty using a top quality real synthetic like Redline would be best. their oils have more of the good stuff as well as some of the best base oils + rarely meet new-useless specs!!

Why not go with a CK-4/SN rated oil like Chevron DELO or Rotella T6 multi vehicle?

Kendall Super D XA and Phillips 66 Guardol ECT HDEOs are the same exact oils. I emailed Phillips 66 regarding these two HDEOs and that was their response. Both oils feature a Liquid Titanium anti-wear additive. Side Note: I ran both of these oils in my Detroit Series 60 motor, and they did a great job.

I've never looked much at Motorcraft SDF 15W40. But the folks at ConocoPhillips are very responsive to emails regarding their products. Don't hesitate asking them about compatibility with the catalytic converter in your BMW.
